- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk or buttermilk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
- 6 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a muffin tin.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: egg, vanilla extract, milk or buttermilk, and vegetable oil.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients using a spatula until just mixed.
- Fill each muffin cup two-thirds full and bake for 15–18 minutes until tops spring back when touched.
- Cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the topping sugar and cinnamon.
- Dip the top of each muffin in melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
