  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (113g/80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup (120g) chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter for icing
  • 1/3 cup (113g/80ml) pure maple syrup for icing
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar for icing
  • Pinch of salt for icing

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then mix in maple syrup and extracts until combined.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Cover dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Scoop dough into balls and place on prepared sheets, spacing them 3 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12–13 minutes until edges are lightly browned; let cool before icing if desired.
