  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)

  • 8 oz penne pasta
  • Grated parmesan cheese for garnish
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add tomato paste, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir occasionally for about 6-7 minutes until the sauce turns deep red.
  2. Incorporate the canned tomatoes into the sauce mixture and simmer while using a wooden spoon to break them down. Continue cooking for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  3. Meanwhile, cook penne pasta according to package instructions in salted water until al dente. Reserve some pasta water before draining.
  4. Drain the pasta and mix it directly into the sauce. Adjust consistency with reserved pasta water if necessary.
  5. Stir in grated parmesan cheese until melted, then serve garnished with fresh basil.
