Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb steak (ribeye or sirloin recommended)
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 4 slices Havarti cheese
  • 1 baguette
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill (diced)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp salt (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the garlic butter by mixing softened butter with diced dill and minced garlic in a bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a cast iron skillet, heat oil over medium heat and add sliced onions. Cook until they are soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  3. Season the steak with salt, push the onions to one side of the skillet, and increase heat to high. Add the steak, cooking for about 4-6 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
  4. Slice the baguette open lengthwise and spread garlic butter generously on both sides. Layer cooked steak slices followed by caramelized onions and top with Havarti cheese.
  5. Return sandwiches to the skillet for a couple of minutes until the cheese melts slightly. Remove from heat, slice into portions, and serve hot.
