Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup fresh sliced strawberries
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 egg (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a 9-inch round baking pan, melt the butter over low heat and mix in the brown sugar until well combined. Spread evenly across the bottom of the pan and layer the sliced strawberries on top.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, white sugar, and baking powder. Add in the milk, room temperature butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth using an electric mixer.
  4. Carefully pour the batter over the strawberries in the pan, spreading it evenly without disturbing the fruit layer.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool for about 5-10 minutes before flipping onto a serving plate.
